August 3, 2012 – On a cross-country flight from Portland, OR to Dulles, VA, the adoption seed was planted while Becky was reading the book, “Seven”.
March 1, 2013 – We officially decided to adopt from Haiti and turned in our application to America World Adoption Agency (AWAA).
June 26, 2013 – Completed our Home Study.
August 23, 2013 – Submitted our dossier to AWAA.
August 29, 2013 – Haiti passed its new adoption law.
November 4, 2013 – Our dossier is sent via FedEx to Haiti.
December 3, 2013 – Our dossier exits legalization
December 13, 2013 – Our dossier is officially submitted to IBESR
December 2, 2014 – We received our first notice of the status of our file. We are at the Children’s Judge, waiting for a signature
May 12, 2015 – We received notice that our file had finally been signed and was going back to IBESR for referral preparation.
June 1, 2015 – IBESR asked us for an updated 171H (immigration form) and we receive a phone call from our family coordinator that our file was in the referral office
July 10, 2015 – We received an email from our adoption coordinator that there was a problem with our referral. The child, who we learned was J, had turned three and was too old for our immigration-approved age range of 0-2. We decided to update our home study and immigration approval vs. getting matched with another child.
July 17, 2015 – Home Study interview
July 22, 2015 – Received updated home study and sent it to immigration for approval
August 26, 2015 – We received immigration approval
September 4, 2015 – We received an email that our referral is ready…it just needs to be released to our orphanage.
September 29, 2015 – Margaret went to IBESR to pick up our referral, but the copy machine was broken and they needed to make a copy of one page.
October 1, 2015 – We got the call from Michelle with our official referral!
October 11, 2015 – October 25, 2015 – Socialization visit
January 15 – January 19, 2016 – Second visit with J
