We are in full planning mode for our next trip to see J. My son Brady, mom, sister, and brother-in-law will join me in Haiti on March 16-20.
I am incredibly grateful for so many things that are taking place around this trip.
First, I am thrilled that J will not only get to meet his brother, but several other members of his family. I also think that it will be an amazing experience for my family to get to see J’s home and experience a third-world culture.
On Patrick’s last trip, our friend Eric came fully prepared with crafts and activities for the kids in the orphanage. He set the bar high. I do not have a creative bone in my body. I have the crafting skills of a 3-year-old. So I’ve been trying to figure out what activities to bring for the kids that could match Eric’s bag of tricks.
Answered prayer: Jill, my friend who is an artist. And I don’t use the term “artist” lightly – she is the real deal. When I physically describe her to other people, I say that she has brown hair and looks like an artist. Well last Friday, Jill randomly volunteered to purchase and organize all of the crafts for our trip. What an amazing gift to our family and the kids at the orphanage!
Finally, we rented a roller skating rink to celebrate the boys birthdays this coming weekend. We are asking for guests not to bring birthday gifts, but instead, if they’d like, to make a donation to purchase food and supplies for the orphanage. We plan on taking the donations to Haiti and purchasing food from a local grocery store near the orphanage. I think it will be particularly a blessing for Brady who will get to actively purchase and deliver the food during our trip.
